Sept 6, 2026, Sky News: Why 56,000 children with special educational needs will be missing from school
Video:
New UK.gov polling analysis exclusively shared with Sky News says nearly 56,000 children with special educational needs and disabilities are on a school role but not actually attending. . . .
Parents and carers are saying they lack confidence in the system itself. . . .
Why are there so many more SEND diagnoses?
Dr. Naomi Fisher, clinical psychologist:
"That is partly because actually our definition of special educational needs and particularly our definition of diagnosis like autism has actually expanded. So it actually does fit more children than it did previously."
