Plans have been drawn up for a new special needs school, near an Essex hotel, to help address the “urgent need." The new school would have places for 120 young adults aged 16 to 25-years-old, onsite accommodation, a water therapy and spa centre, next to Sturmer Hall, off Church Walk in Sturmer - in north Essex. . . .
It comes as Essex continues to see long delays and issues with children being assessed for special educational needs, with Essex County Council missing its targets. The plans state the vision is for “a calm and nurturing environment where pupils with special education needs and disabilities can thrive.” . . .
It comes as Essex County Council was criticised for delays in assessing children with special needs in the latest report by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission. The authority says Essex has been on an "improvement journey" for several years, with "significant "investments. It also comes after a recent £1.5 million [$2M] investment from the county council for the services.
