Pens Meadow School, a new SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) facility in Dudley, was praised in the House of Commons on March 26 by Dudley MP Sonia Kumar, who called it 'fantastic and long-awaited' and said it is transforming opportunities for children and families across the borough.

Ms Kumar said: "I recently had the pleasure of visiting Pens Meadow SEND School – and what I saw was truly inspiring.

"For families across Dudley, this school represents more than just a building – it's a lifeline.

"It's giving children with additional needs the support, care and opportunities they deserve, closer to home.

"This is exactly the kind of investment our community has needed for years."

She also thanked headteacher Marie Hunter and her team for their work in delivering the new provision.

In response, the Leader of the House of Commons welcomed the school and confirmed the government's commitment to SEND reform.

He said this included £4 billion to make mainstream schools more inclusive, and confirmed a parliamentary debate on SEND will take place after the Easter recess.

Ms Kumar said: "I'm proud that Dudley is leading the way with schools like Pens Meadow – but we know there is more to do.

"Too many families across the Black Country still face long waits, limited provision and uncertainty when trying to secure the support their children need.

"That's why I raised this directly in Parliament – and I will be making Dudley's case again in the upcoming debate.

"Every child, no matter their needs, deserves the chance to thrive – and I will keep fighting to ensure Dudley families get the support they need."
