(UK) Downham: Elem school adds "specialist support hub" ($170M)

Sept 4, 2021, Lynn News: Specialist support hub to open at Downham primary school as new term begins https://www.lynnnews.co.uk/news/specialist-support-hub-to-open-at-west-norfolk-primary-schoo-9214631/

E. England As youngsters begin a fresh education year, it's not just the term that is new at one West Norfolk school. Pupils at the Hillcrest Primary School in Downham will be able to benefit from a newly-built specialist resource base to support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The facility is one of five across the county, plus a dedicated school, which are set to open this autumn as part of a £120 million [$170M U.S.] investment programme. Daniel Elmer, Norfolk County Council deputy cabinet member for children's services, said: “It’s fantastic to see all these new places open to support the learning of so many children and young people. “The new specialist support provided by SRBs at locations across Norfolk will give children the extra support they need to achieve their full potential in mainstream schools. “It is a significant step forward in our pledge to create more specialist places for children with SEND.”… Officials say a similar facility is planned at the Greyfriars Academy in Lynn, while work on a new special school in Fakenham is ongoing.
