Dec 12, 2025, Dorset Echo: Portland: £3.8m [$5M] funding secured for SEND school in Dorset
Once open, the new SEND school will have around 70 specialist places for children with additional needs, with many children likely to be living in the Weymouth and Portland area.
The project was touted in 2023 as part of a Free School programme led by the Department of Education under the previous government.
MP Mr Hatton has done his own campaigning on the issue since getting elected and raised the issue at Prime Minister's Questions with Sir Keir Starmer in October. . . .
“With almost £4 million [$5.3M] of extra funding now confirmed, I will continue to work closely with Dorset Council and all the key players to finally open a new SEND school on Portland. Knowing that this new school will now open is fantastic news for our community." . . .
