Plans by Wellspring Academy Trust to use the former South Holland Post 16 Centre as a school for children aged five to 16 who are outside of mainstream education has been backed by county and national education authorities. But it has emerged this week that delays to the refurbishment of the building in Matmore Gate has forced the opening of what will be known as Springwell Academy Lincolnshire: Spalding to be put back until April 2019, at the earliest…. Wellspring, which hopes to run the new school for nearly 65 children, was strongly criticised by people living in Matmore Gate for not giving them information about their plans…. In response, Wellspring executive principal Dave Whitaker said: “At the moment, there are around 250 to 270 children in Lincolnshire who have been excluded from mainstream education and they need schools to go to. “But these children are currently in really poor accommodation and some of them spend up to two hours travelling to school…. Springwell Academy Spalding was one of more than 130 new schools given the go-ahead by the Department for Education as far back as April 2017…. “That is why these new schools are so important as they give us the school places we need for the future and also give parents more choices to find a great school place in their area that is right for their child.”…
