Feb 12, 2026, Gazette News: Colchester primary school officially opens new SEND facility
A COLCHESTER primary school has opened a new specialist building in what has been described as major step forward for educational provision for children with special educational needs.
Hazelmere Infant School [4 to 7 year olds] in Hawthorne Avenue officially opened The Lodge, a facility which is designed to support and strengthen the school’s special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) provision.
The school, which has been developing its SEND provision since 2017, identified the need for additional dedicated spaces as SEND pupil numbers have increased over time.
Since the opening of the lodge, there are now a total of 16 spaces for SEND pupils across the school for children aged four to seven. . . .
Councillor Tony Ball, cabinet member for education at Essex County. Council, said he was pleased to work with school saying: “We look forward to working with the school to ensure it is a great success”. . . .
