Dec 14, 2025, E. Anglian Daily Times: SEND unit proposed at Samuel Ward Academy in Haverhill
Unity Schools Partnership has sent a letter to parents on its plans to add the unit to its Samuel Ward Academy site in Chalkstone Way.
The proposed development would cater for 18 pupils and open on September 1, 2026. . . .
It would be supported by funding from the local authority and be situated within the school premises using modified facilities.
Students attending the unit would need an educational, health and care plan (EHCP) to attend the special educational needs (SEND) facility.
"All capital costs for refurbishment will be funded from Suffolk County Council’s capital programme to ensure there is the appropriate accommodation," the letter adds. . . .
It comes after the Department for Education confirmed on Friday around 50,000 specialist places will be created for SEND pupils.
Around £3billion [$4B] is being invested to ensure students can access tailor-made spaces with the right facilities. . . .
