Feb 20, 2026, Suffolk News: New 90-place special school to be built by Department for Education in Bury St Edmunds at former Horringer Court Middle School site
A new special school is set to be built in Bury St Edmunds on the site of a former middle school.
Yesterday, Suffolk County Council and Eastern Education Group announced that a 90-place school for students aged 14 to 19 with special educational needs and disabilities will be built in Glastonbury Road on the former Horringer Court Middle School site. . . .
The new 90-place school is being funded by the Department for Education and will be run by Eastern Education Group. . . .
This news about the new Bury school comes a week after it was announced that the county council and Unity Schools Partnership will open a new SEND school in Saxmundham for 126 students with severe learning difficulties.
Both new provisions have been agreed by Suffolk County Council in line with its SEND sufficiency plans, which outline how specialist provision should be delivered across the county.
