Dec 13, 2025, Bolton News: New special educational needs college 'welcomed' as landscape plan approved  

A landscape plan for a new college for children and adults with special educational needs has been approved.


The Birtenshaw Group currently operates a school in Bromley Cross and a college in Tonge Moor.


They applied to change the use of two commercial and storage units in Great Lever into a new SEND college.


The plan for the site, including Bennett House and Burnden House off Viking Street, was approved by Bolton town planners on June 26. . . .


The school will have up to 40 students on roll, made up of children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities.


The applicant said each student will typically attend three days a week, meaning only 27 will be at the college at any one time.


They said there will be a total of 35 staff, with up to 30 on site at any time. . . .
