Topeka, KS: High school gets therapy dog; one of 15 dogs in the district

Dec 3, 2018, KSNT TV, Topeka, KS: Special dog helping students at Topeka High School Oscar is part Shih Tzu, part Lhasa Apso and 100-percent Trojan. On most days, you'll find him in the hallways of Topeka High School eagerly awaiting pats and scratches from students and staff as they hurry along from class to class. His owner is the school's special education social worker, Norella Munoz…. Oscar is no class pet, though. He's a specially trained therapy dog. He was trained through an organization called CARES in Concordia. … … "Eventually they'll start talking but sometimes it's just them spending time with Oscar before they can calm down in order to be able to address some of the issue that they brought that day." Oscar is one of 15 therapy dogs in the district.
