April 26, 2025, KHQ, Spokane, WA: Annual Steps for Autism 5k at Riverfront Park spreads awareness
Bloomsday organizers are preparing for a large turnout with 31,000 participants registered for the 7-mile race through Spokane, also known as the Lilac City.
To manage the influx of people, event organizers are urging participants to plan ahead and use the Spokane Transit Authority (STA) shuttle service instead of driving downtown. Five pickup locations have been designated to transport participants to the starting line this Sunday. The shuttles will begin running at 6:20 a.m. and will continue every 30 minutes until 9:00 a.m.
Bethany Lueck, Bloomsday's Director of Communication, highlighted the efficiency of the shuttle service, stating, "You get cozy on that bus, get down to that start area, your start corral. I mean, we've been doing it so long it's kind of a well-oiled machine. STA is great, the City of Spokane is great. Everyone is out here to make this a fun and enjoyable event." . . .
