During the training here at Spartanburg Community College officers learned the characteristics of autism, the best practices for communication and what resources are available for families.
…The South Carolina Department Disabilities and Special Needs partnered with state chapter of the National Alliance on mental illness to host the Autism Crisis Intervention Training for Law Enforcement.
People with autism often have deficits in communication and language skills.
“About 30 to 50 percent of our folks on the autism spectrum don’t speak but communicate in other ways.
