Most parents with kids in school know there is much more to today’s public education than academics, after school clubs, and athletic competitions. In addition to its counseling center, Shen’s wellness services include psychologists, social workers, a transition counselor, a text message hotline and student empowerment services.... In addition to the other schools this year the service will be offered in the middle school complex and Karigon and Orenda elementary schools. To bring this mental health service to the schools the district has once again contracted the Saratoga Center For the Family.... “They’re addressing issues of depression, anxiety, stress, trauma and suicide,” Carman said. “It’s an example of the school district working with the family to insure students come to school, stay in school and hopefully, graduate.”
