SD legislature studies SPED funding; "increasing numbers of students" need services

Sept 20, 2018, Yankton, SD, WNAX Radio: SD Governor Dennis Daugaard; School Districts Have to Better Manage Special Education Spending A summer study committee of the South Dakota legislature recommended that a task force study special education funding. A four-million-dollar state fund set up to help schools with those costs has been tapped out. Special education is funded by a separate property tax levy in each school district. Daugaard says school boards may have to do a better job of managing those funds….. The study committee also heard about the increasing numbers of students needing special education services.
