Dec 22, 2025,  Capmad: A specialized center to better support vulnerable children

A New Step for Inclusive Education

The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr. Patrick Herminie, has announced the construction of a modern and fully accessible center for children with special needs.

This new facility will bring together education, therapy, and care services in one location to provide better support for each child.

This announcement was made following a presidential visit to the Roche Caiman School for Exceptional Children and the North East Point Autism Center. Accompanied by the Minister of Finance, Pierre Laporte, and the Minister of Education, David Pierre, the President met with teachers, caregivers, and administrators of these institutions to better understand their needs and challenges.

Furthermore, the Head of State commended the staff’s dedication and the quality of their work with the children. He pledged that the government would continue to support these facilities by improving their human and material resources.

While awaiting the construction of the new center, Patrick Herminie also announced a specialized training program for teachers and caregivers, conducted with the support of international partners. “This initiative aims to strengthen their skills and provide better support for children,” he stated.

Furthermore, during discussions with management, several issues were raised: lack of space, difficulty in recruiting qualified staff, and limited access to therapy services. “The government will work to find sustainable solutions to overcome these obstacles,” he assured them.
