(Portugal) Special needs/autism cases were "expected to skyrocket"

May 2, 2024, Portugal Resident: Increasing number of children in Portugal suffer from autism

Way back in 2015, Olhão town hall ‘commemorated World Autism Day’ warning that the number of children suffering from this disorder was expected to skyrocket.

Nine years on, and SIC is reporting that there are now so many children with varying degrees of autism in the public education system that the number of specialist teachers available to help them ‘is insufficient’. According to reports, each class these days should only have two pupils with special needs – but there are some, says SIC, with 10.
