While graduation is still a week away, Pittsburgh Public School officials are already preparing for next school year as they face ongoing staffing shortages, an issue that has plagued districts across the country since the pandemic.
On Saturday, dozens of people flowed through the courtyard at the district’s administration building in Oakland during the first job fair of the summer.
The event, which attracted more than 65 registered participants, not including walk-ins, worked to fill open paraprofessional positions — an aide who helps teachers in the classroom — in special education and early childhood education. A second job fair is scheduled for June 22 to fill security, nursing, food service and clerical positions….
According to Ms. Howard, the district currently has more than 35 open paraprofessional positions between special education and early childhood education. …
