Expressing creativity and learning how to create at a young age can be hugely beneficial to a young mind, according to BlueGrace Art Owner Becky Grace, and the importance of developing those skills in young people has inspired her to host a series of Sensory-Friendly Art events throughout the summer.

Creating a safe and welcoming environment for every child, regardless of social anxieties, autism-spectrum disorders or sensory processing issues, is at the center of the mission for BlueGrace Art as owner Becky Grace continues to offer Sensory-Friendly Art events throughout the summer.

Grace said the events have been successful, drawing 20 or more kids to most events (unless weather puts a damper on things) and she continues to seek community sponsors to host the events.

Community is at the center of the events, Grace said, and all of the activities available at the events are curated to help inspire kids and parents to play together.

“I offer a little of everything in my sensory-friendly classes. Some days I will have themes, others will just be about having fun,” Grace said. “There are building blocks, a color changing wall, rainbow rice, water beads, painting stations, some fun yard games, music, and bubbles that all encourage kids and adults to play and have fun together.”

Making the activities sensory-friendly, Grace said, is aimed at creating a space where everyone can enjoy the events together, even if they suffer from autism spectrum disorders or other sensory issues that might make it difficult for them to interface with some more high-intensity situations. Whether they might suffer from social anxiety or other issues, the sensory-friendly events are aimed at making it a welcoming and safe physical and social experience, Grace said….
