Ohio: Youth Mental Health First Aid program teaches adults about the warning signs

Mar 26, 2018, Cleveland.com: Recognizing mental health issues in adolescents topic of training in Bay Village http://www.cleveland.com/bay-village/index.ssf/2018/03/recognizing_mental_health_issu.html Youth Mental Health First Aid USA held an eight-hour program to introduce professionals and other interested individuals to the warning signs of mental illness in adolescents. Megan Basel and Sarah Pavicic, both counselors within the Bay Village schools, conducted the program. They have been trained in the program in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, the Ohio Mental Health Network for School Success and the Sandy Hook Promise. Megan said, "(The course) introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems and builds understanding of the importance of early intervention." The information also teaches individuals just how to help an adolescent in crisis. … About 25 people attended and included parents, teachers, therapists, a school superintendent and a scout leader, according to Basel.
