Northport's new preschool recently opened its doors to all children ages 2 and a half to 5.
Dr. Shan Archibald is the founder of Archway Academy. She opened the school because two of her sons have autism. For years, she drove to Birmingham so her sons could receive proper education. She said she doesn't want other parents to have to do the same.
"It's not just a preschool for children with autism. So it's an inclusive environment, because we need the typical kids here as models," said Archibald.
Archibald said her experience as a nurse practitioner as well as mother to autistic kids gives her the experience to run a school like this. . . .
