On Monday, Aug. 21, two health experts from Northfield Public Schools will give a presentation on food allergies and how to prepare for a safe school year. The talk is free and open to the public, and will be held in the Northfield Hospital Conference Center, 2000 North Ave., from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Stephany Stromme, RD, LD is Director of Child Nutrition, and Elizabeth Bade, RN, LSN is District Health & Wellness Coordinator for Northfield Public Schools. They’re encouraging parents to bring their best tips for a safe school year to share with others.
Food allergies affect one in 13 children – roughly two kids in every classroom across the U.S. Food allergies among children have increased more than 50% since 1997, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Allergic reactions to food can be mild or severe, and potentially deadly.
Starting this fall, the Food Allergy Support Group will meet on the second Monday of the month in February, May, August and November, from 7 to 8:30 pm at Northfield Hospital.
