Feb 23, 2018, Bar Harbor, ME, Mount Desert Islander: Peanut-free table at high school https://www.mdislander.com/maine-news/peanut-free-table-high-school
Because some students have severe allergic reactions to peanuts, Mount Desert Island High School has designated one table in the cafeteria as off limits to peanuts and peanut products.
For people who are allergic, peanuts can cause anaphylaxis, “a sudden and potentially life threatening reaction that impairs breathing and can cause the body to go into shock,” School Nurse Holly Cozzi-Burr wrote in a recent message to parents.
“Please help us support our students with severe allergies … by alerting your own student to the special needs of some of their peers.”
