Feb 14, 2019, Black Earth, WI, Middleton—Cross Plains Times-Tribune: School Board Updated on Elementary School Design http://www.middletontimes.com/articles/2019/02/14/school-board-updated-elementary-school-design The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School Board reviewed the latest design schematic for the new elementary school planned near the Pope Farm Conservancy. The new elementary school is part of a multi building expansion plan approved by voters in a 2018 referendum for $138.9 million. Superintendent George Mavroulis said he was thrilled on the progress made. “The work continues,” Mavroulis said. “I think every time we see a more refined version it is just so exciting.” … There will also be small rooms that could be used for group instruction, counselors or specialists, deescalation or sensory rooms between every two classrooms.
Childhood Lost
Children today are noticeably different from previous generations, and the proof is in the news coverage we see every day. This site shows you what’s happening in schools around the world. Children are increasingly disabled and chronically ill, and the education system has to accommodate them. Things we've long associated with autism, like sensory issues, repetitive behaviors, anxiety and lack of social skills, are now problems affecting mainstream students. Blame is predictably placed on bad parenting (otherwise known as trauma from home).
Addressing mental health needs is as important as academics for modern educators. This is an unrecognized disaster. The stories here are about children who can’t learn or behave like children have always been expected to. What childhood has become is a chilling portent for the future of mankind.
