The current law calls for specific training of teachers, administrators and education personnel in regulations for seclusion and restraint in emergency situations. … Under the law, seclusion and restraint can generally last no longer than 15 minutes for an elementary school pupil or 20 minutes for a middle school or high school pupil. Schools must have detailed documentation and additional support like a change of staff or introducing a nurse or specialist if seclusion or restraint lasts longer.
