During the all-day gathering, held in the auditorium of Spring Hill Middle School, participants tackled the subject of student behavior and the best methods in working with challenging students. The keynote presentation was given by Amie Dean, an Atlanta-based educator and speaker with more than two decades of experience teaching in elementary, middle and high schools. ... The event also included a presentation on substance abuse from Caleb Vogtner, an adolescent primary therapist at Cumberland Heights Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center. Supervisor of Counseling & Mental Health Dr. Robb Killen said the day was a collaborative effort between all of the school district’s departments. “Going through the district, behavior can be an issue among the students,” Killen said. “That is one of the biggest things that I have heard.” Killen said the educators were exposed to new practices in how to work with students with behavioral issue. “Ami Dean brings a wealth of knowledge and wealth of experience that you can take back to your schools and apply to the classroom,” Killen told the educators.
