Mar 26, 2018, Bremerton, WA, Kitsap Sun: Program meets growing demand for mental health services in Mason County The Olympia-based nonprofit, founded in 1956 as the Thurston Child Guidance Clinic, is growing in Mason County, expanding into to schools and the North Mason area and adding new programs and support groups targeted for specific demographics, such as expectant mothers. … Behavioral Health Resources has expanded in the last year to Belfair, with a therapist at North Mason Resources three times a week and a full-time therapist available for all five schools in the North Mason School District. … Behavioral Health Resources has started groups for the kids at North Mason, for example, an “Angry Birds” group focused on managing anger and coping skills, and students also have access to counseling and case management. “It depends on the age of the child what they need from us,” Dura said. “Kindergartners sometimes disclose they don’t know how to make friends, so we help them build those skills, or parents need resources in the community. … “We’re open to coming to their homes, especially in the summer when kids are away from a big safety net in school,” Dura said. “We try to do the best thing for our communities. We use that phrase to guide us. It’s hard work.”
