Lynchburg, VA: Autism school expands to new site; 'growing need'

July 12, 2025, WSET, Lynchburg, VA: Rivermont School relocates, expands to meet growing needs for autism support

The Rivermont Schools' Lynchburg North location is moving to a new site and adopting a new name.

Previously off Old Forest Road, the school for students ages 5 to 22 with autism will now be known as Rivermont Lynchburg Leesville and will be located on Leesville Road.

The new facility will accommodate 65 students, an increase from the previous 52, and will feature eight classrooms instead of six. Enhancements include an outdoor playground with a blacktop, a life skills room, and multiple specialty and therapy rooms.

"There's been a growing need for our type of service, supporting students with autism and other disabilities in our community," said Audra Daniel, principal of Rivermont Lynchburg Leesville. "And we have been able to take that need and expand our new building."

The new location is currently under construction, with plans to be completed and ready for students by August 18.
