Lorain, OH: District opens autism school for 2026-27 school year

LORAIN, Ohio -- Lorain City Schools has named Roshelle Dewey as the first director of the district’s new Frank Jacinto School of Autism, which is expected to open during the 2026-27 school year.


The specialized school is being created to serve students with the highest levels of need and will offer individualized instruction, sensory-conscious learning spaces and therapeutic support, according to a district announcement.


Dewey has served as a special education supervisor for Lorain City Schools since 2021, overseeing special education operations at Admiral King, Hawthorne and Garfield elementary schools. . . .


Her responsibilities have also included oversight of out-of-district scholarships, support for parochial schools and participation on several district leadership teams.


The Frank Jacinto School of Autism is intended to expand specialized educational opportunities within the district and provide additional support for students with autism and other complex learning needs.


Additional details about the school’s opening and enrollment are expected as the district prepares for its launch next school year.
