Lewiston, ME: All of $350K SPED reserve to be spent on overspend

The Lewiston School Committee unanimously approved using all of the school department’s $350,000 special education reserve to offset overspending in the current budget.

Superintendent Jake Langlais brought the proposal to the committee at its Monday night meeting and explained that special education staffing and transportation costs have exceeded the budgeted amount for the current year, which ends in June.

Langlais hopes the reserve funds will cover the unaccounted costs, but officials may have to take additional steps if spending isn’t curbed.
