L'ANSE, MI (WLUC/CNN) - A classroom with no desks is a new learning approach in one school.
Teachers said they hope the arrangement can help students focus better during the school day.
This is the first year L'anse second-graders are doing away with desks in their classrooms.
"We thought about what students might need or want in the classroom for, you know, helping with their behaviors and helping with their strategies to help them comprehend things," said teacher Emily Maxson. …
Where a student sits is determined by daily behavior, and is decided at the end of each school day.
"We have a behavior system with a clip chart, and whoever is highest on the clip chart gets to choose their seat next for the next day," Maxson said. "So at the end of the day choose our seats for the next day, we start with who's highest on the clip chart and then we go down down down and then everybody will have a seat and they put their clips on the board that has the name of each seat. …
