Knoxville, TN: Teachers, parents concerned about "violent classroom outbursts" in 2nd grade

Three weeks after a mother and a teacher both spoke about violent classroom outbursts, two more mothers shared their fears during the public comments portion of the board's agenda. Angeline Blackburn said that outbursts and the classroom evacuations that follow harm education and the students’ peace of mind. “It’s becoming a norm for my son to go to school and expect to be evacuated because some kid is acting bad,” she said. “They’re just expecting to see these kids throw desks and for it to be OK. It’s really not.” … Tonya Foster said teachers at West Elementary and school administrators were allowing or ignoring bad behavior and urged the board to act. “I don’t feel that I should have to send my child to school in fear that he’s going to have to deal with a naughty child throwing desks or cussing the teacher out and saying vulgar language in front of the whole classroom,” Foster said. “The board needs to do something about it.” …
