May 22, 2019, WVLT-TV, Knoxville, TN: Sensory courtyard unveiled at Dogwood Elementary https://www.wvlt.tv/content/news/Sensory-courtyard-unveiled-at-Dogwood-Elementary-510293911.html A sensory courtyard was unveiled Wednesday at Dogwood Elementary as a place for children to play, explore and re-set. The new area features what's called a tinkering wall set with wheels, gardens with edible plants and a hot-stone zone. Teachers at the school said it's a great retreat if students have had a bad day, "We wanted to reduce behaviors we were seeing in the classroom, give children a place to explore, calm down when or if they needed to and a place to learn because we are after all, a school," said Dogwood Elementary special education Teacher Ashley Brooks. … …"I think it's fun because you can express your feelings when you're upset."

Childhood Lost
Children today are noticeably different from previous generations, and the proof is in the news coverage we see every day. This site shows you what’s happening in schools around the world. Children are increasingly disabled and chronically ill, and the education system has to accommodate them. Things we've long associated with autism, like sensory issues, repetitive behaviors, anxiety and lack of social skills, are now problems affecting mainstream students. Blame is predictably placed on bad parenting (otherwise known as trauma from home).
Addressing mental health needs is as important as academics for modern educators. This is an unrecognized disaster. The stories here are about children who can’t learn or behave like children have always been expected to. What childhood has become is a chilling portent for the future of mankind.
