Fourteen teachers were trained in Youth Mental Health First Aid in June, according to a press release from the Buffalo County Community Partners. The training offers tools and resources specifically designed for adults who work with young people. The training provides tools to handle difficult situations, how to be more aware of changes and other signs of mental health issues and how to ask the right questions. “Many educators have no prior experience with, nor have been taught about the ‘look fors’ for youth experiencing mental health crises. This training empowered staff to be more observant of student emotional status, understand possible causation, and to provide student support at the appropriate time to prevent escalating issues.
