What will happen in another 4 years? How can we go on like this? This is a national (and international) problem of monumental proportions. We have an entire new class of children who cannot be accommodated by the system: many are manifestly neurologically impaired. Meanwhile, the government and the medical profession sleep on regardless.

The Jefferson County Board of Education is scheduled to vote March 10 on a plan to overhaul the special education division at Jefferson County Public Schools as part of the district's plan to address a $188 million deficit.

If the plan is adopted, the Exceptional Child Education division will be heavily reorganized, with a significant number of positions reporting to a new boss or having their days reduced, according to organizational charts posted to the meeting agenda.
