Isle, MN: Decrease in students, increase in SPED costs; more paras being hired

Director of finance Heather Hipp led the board through an overview for the budget for next year. A primary concern affecting the budget was a projected loss of 15 students for the coming year, due in part to the graduation of a large senior class. Expenditures were expected to increase by $55,631. Contracts for the 18-19 school brought with them an increase in salary and benefits. There was also an increase due to health insurance. Hipp cited an increase in the costs for special education as well, adding the school had hired new paraprofessionals. … …State-based revenue would see a decrease due to the smaller student body as well. While the lower student count would also decrease revenue from meals served, Hipp added this year would not see an increase in meal prices. “That’ll be a nice thing for the families this year,” she said. …
