What will happen in another 4 years? How can we go on like this? This is a national (and international) problem of monumental proportions. We have an entire new class of children who cannot be accommodated by the system: many are manifestly neurologically impaired. Meanwhile, the government and the medical profession sleep on regardless.

A special conference for all Educate Together secondary schools will take place at the Glenview Hotel, Co Wicklow, as part of a campaign to get more resources for special education needs in schools.

Educate Together Secondary School Wicklow, based at The Glebe in Wicklow town, currently have three full autism classes, and a waiting list that could accommodate six more classes. In May, a school in Co Cork made national headlines when one in 20 students were diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum, however that figure is now one in five for ETSS Wicklow.
