There will be a new special school in Monasterevin for the start of the new school year.

The new school is set to be established through the repurposing of the existing St. Peter's boys primary school as they move to a new school building.

Minister for Education and Youth Hildegarde Naughton TD and Minister of State with responsibility for Special Education and Inclusion Michael Moynihan TD have today made the announcement.

They have confirmed the opening of the school for the start of the 2026/2027 school year.

This development is the 20th new special school established nationwide over the past six years.

There will also be new special schools in Balbriggan and Citywest in Co. Dublin, as well as Bray in Co. Wicklow.
