Mar 3 2025, Laois Nationalist: New special education classes announced for three schools in Laois
SCHOOLS in Mountmellick, Portarlington and in Ratheniska have been approved for new special education classes.
Announcing the details Deputy Sean Fleming said that the Department of Education has sanctioned new special classes for Presentation Primary School in Portarlington, Ratheniska National School and The Rock National School in Mountmellick.
Deputy Fleming said that the number of special education classes “have more than doubled in Laois from 32 classes in 2020 to 86 to date."
He said: “I want to compliment the schools’ management and all those involved for all their work in progressing these projects to this stage.
“Education and special education is a priority for Fianna Fáil in Government. Providing new additional classrooms and learning spaces for children with special needs is an important part of this.”
“Children must always come first, especially those with special needs, said the Castletown based TD.
