July 26, 2024, Kildare Nationalist: Three South Kildare classes to get new special classes
Three south Kildare schools will have new special education class following government approval.
Athy Model School, Gaelscoil Chill Dara and Scoil Bhríde (Athgarvan) have been approved under the Additional Accommodation Scheme.
Fianna Fáil education spokesperson and local Senator Fiona said the scheme ensures that essential classroom accommodation is available to cater for the number of pupils enrolled in a school.
Senator O’Loughlin said “I am pleased to have received confirmation from my colleague the Minister for Education Norma Foley TD that three local school projects will be progressing under the Additional Accommodation Scheme.
“Athy Model School, Gaelscoil Chill Dara and Scoil Bhríde have been approved for a refurbishment project for the reconfiguration to create 1 Special Class in each school.
Senator O’Loughlin concluded: “Special education is a hugely important area, and I have always been a strong advocate for expanded provision to support those students with additional needs.”
