What will happen in another 4 years? How can we go on like this? This is a national (and international) problem of monumental proportions. We have an entire new class of children who cannot be accommodated by the system: many are manifestly neurologically impaired. Meanwhile, the government and the medical profession sleep on regardless.

The Government is being criticised for not making public the number of children with special needs who are without a school place for the coming academic year.

It comes as a special-needs education campaigner has identified at least 168 children in counties Dublin and Laois alone whose start dates have been delayed by building works.
