(Ireland) Co Wexford school to get ASD classroom; 'really welcome news'

Jan 26, 2024, Irish Independent: Gorey school is set to get new ASD classroom with work due to start in September

SE Ireland

Work on the new ASD specific class which caters for students with autism at Gorey Educate Together Secondary School will begin in September.

The news has been welcomed by staff and students alike who look forward to seeing the classroom in situ.

"This is really welcome news. The opening of the ASD class at Educate Together is a further positive development at this excellent school. I know the principal and staff have worked hard to deliver this. Government support in this area is a core part of education policy. All three second level schools in Gorey town have strong commitments to inclusive education,"

said Senator Malcolm Byrne….

Cllr Fionntáin Ó Súilleabháin is a local Special needs teacher and is also delighted with this news. “I understand it may be for at least 6 students and I understand that there are approximately 18 awaiting places. Two units for Creagh College have been sanctioned so this is all welcome news for parents of children with additional needs in north Wexford,” said Cllr Ó Súilleabháin.
