This will be a fantastic space and a real benefit for the people of Cavan.
A "special and unique" occasion took place at Kingspan Breffni Park this afternoon when a new Sensory Room was officially opened at the GAA grounds. It's the first facility of its kind to be opened by the GAA and will promote inclusiveness, and access to the sport for everyone.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cavan GAA senior captain Raymond Galligan, said the Room's ethos was centred on creating a safe space for young people with special needs so they can engage indoors or socialise outside and enjoy the match taking place on the pitch.
He highlighted the "many factors" that some families need to take into consideration when attending a game. Raymond added the new Sensory Room will assist with those decisions, and provide for an inclusive space that will become part of every day life for people living and working in Co Cavan.
"I manage a day service for adults with disabilities and I would be familiar with sensory rooms, and with the value that they bring to young people. But there has been huge work done in relation to this by Cavan GAA Children's Officer, Ann Fortune, and by a number of people on the Committee.
"We have also been really well aided by local people to really make sure that it will be a fantastic space and a real benefit for the people of Cavan," he said.
