"The whole area of special education is extremely important. We need more classes."

The Department of Education has announced the classes for four primary schools in Co. Monaghan, as well as one post primary school.

Meanwhile, Co. Cavan has received special classes in two primary schools, and one post primary school.

In Monaghan, Corracrin National School, St. Dympna’s National School, Scoil Bhríde Mallaghrafferty, and Scoil Éanna each received the good news.

Our Ladies Secondary School in Castleblayney also received a special class.

Meanwhile in Co. Cavan, Kilinkere National School and St. Michaels National School received special classes, as well as Breifne College.

Local Fianna Fáil TD, Brendan Smith welcomed the news.

He said that these classes provide proper supports for children with additional needs. . . .

"The whole area of special education is extremely important. We need more classes," he added.

Co. Monaghan Senator, Robbie Gallagher, also welcomed the news.

"It clearly shows that while there is clearly progress in the special needs area, more needs to be done, more clarity needs to be given to it," Senator Gallagher said.

"Parents need that clarity. There should be a better line of site of what the needs of children are going forward, so it wouldn't always be a cliff edge for parents waiting to see if their child got a school place or not," Senator Gallagher added.
