Dec 9, 2025, Nenagh Live: Project advances to design phase for 14-classroom special education expansion
Scoil Aonghusa in Cashel extension plans move closer with contractor appointed
The project, a priority for the local representative since his election, will deliver 14 new classrooms dedicated to special education, along with essential ancillary facilities.
Deputy Murphy described Scoil Aonghusa as “a centre of educational excellence” and said the expansion has been central to his engagement with both the school leadership and the Department of Education.
“I am pleased to confirm that the project is now moving into the next phase,” he added. Lidan Construction has been appointed as the design-build contractor, with Healy Architects leading the design team.
The Department of Education is finalising procurement arrangements and site considerations, paving the way for the contractor’s formal appointment and the start of the design process.
The completed designs are expected to be submitted to the Local Authority for review in early 2026. Subject to planning approval, both on-site and off-site construction will proceed simultaneously, with the new facilities anticipated to open in early 2027.
The expansion is expected to significantly strengthen special education provision in Cashel, meeting growing demand and modernising existing facilities.
