(Ireland) Ballysax: School adds autism class; 'We are incredibly proud'

St Brigid’s National School, Ballysax, Co Kildare proudly marked a special milestone on October 9 with the official opening of its new special class for children with autism.


The event was officiated by Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion, Michael Moynihan TD, who was joined by Seán Ó Fearghaíl TD and Senator Fiona O’Loughlin.. . .

Families of pupils attending the new class were also in attendance to celebrate this important day for the school community.


The class officially opened on September 1, 2025, following extensive preparation and refurbishment works completed over the summer months. The new facility includes a bright, welcoming classroom space along with sensory and quiet areas designed to support the individual needs of pupils.


Speaking at the event, Principal Ken Mulligan said: “We are incredibly proud to open this new class, which represents a significant step forward in making our school even more inclusive. It’s a space where every child can thrive, learn, and be supported according to their individual needs. . .
