The Punjab Special Education Department is establishing nine satellite campuses of the Maryam Nawaz School and Resource Centre for Autism at all divisional headquarters to extend its specialised educational, therapeutic and rehabilitation services across the province.

Established as the first institution of its kind in Punjab, the school offers state of the art educational, therapeutic and rehabilitation facilities, setting a new benchmark for specialised care and inclusive education for children with autism. The first three satellite campuses are being established in Gujranwala, Sargodha and Rawalpindi, with the remaining campuses planned in other divisional headquarters.

The expansion initiative aims to replicate the school’s specialised educational model across Punjab and make modern autism related services more accessible to children and their families beyond Lahore.

The school has received approximately 1,500 applications for admission, of which around 200 children, mostly between six and 11 years of age, have been enrolled. The response reflects the growing demand for specialised educational institutions equipped to address the individual learning, developmental and therapeutic needs of children with autism. . . .

The participants also discussed the centre’s broader role as a resource and training institution, its planned expansion through nine satellite campuses and the need to develop specialised support mechanisms for adolescents with autism. They highlighted the importance of age-appropriate educational, therapeutic and rehabilitation interventions to ensure continuity of support as children grow older.

The PCC’s initiative is expected to facilitate stronger government-civil society partnerships, encourage the replication of effective autism education and rehabilitation models and help build the institutional capacity of organisations working in this specialised field.

The session reaffirmed the Punjab Charities Commission’s role in facilitating cooperation between government institutions and civil society, promoting professional knowledge-sharing and mobilising non-governmental organisations as partners in strengthening inclusive education and autism related support services across Punjab.
