Throughout all schools, existing initiatives will be solidified and expanded. This includes in training in yoga, mindfulness and trauma-sensitive instruction for teachers and staff to use in classrooms. Hopkins High School and Hopkins One Voice’s student engagement campaign, which will focus on identifying and seeking help for emotional and mental health concerns, received $5,000. … Harley Hopkins Family Center and Alice Smith Elementary, a “trauma sensitive” school, both received more than $4,000 for self-regulation rooms. These rooms are designed for sensory breaks that will be filled with therapeutic and innovative tools to assist students in learning to calm themselves. At the center, staff will use weighted sensory lap pads, breathing balls and fidget toys to guide preschoolers to de-escalate. Glen Lake Elementary received approximately $2,400 for a similar initiative that will create a new sensory space in the existing motor room for any student who needs a quiet space or sensory input, such as a weighted vest, to focus and calm down.
