Harrisburg, PA: 15yo with autism/seizure disorder isn't receiving aide support

Jan 7, 2026, CBS21, Harrisburg, PA: Couple says daughter with special needs isn't getting promised help from local school

A West Shore couple is expressing frustration with a local school board after she said her daughter isn't receiving the special aide she was promised.

Melissa and Scott Harris spoke exclusively to CBS 21 and said their daughter Jennifer has special needs. The couple said Cedar Cliff High School, part of the West Shore School District where their 15-year-old is a student, put a plan in place to help Jennifer on transportation to and from school.

Recently, Harris said, there have been three or four times where the aide has not shown up, and most recently, Harris said the bus driver dropped the aide off before Jennifer, leaving the teen vulnerable should she have a seizure.

“I feel like my daughter was neglected," Melissa Harris said. "I felt like she was put through a lot of stress. She's not able to communicate that, but you could just tell that something's not right."

Melissa Harris said Jennifer suffers from autism and epilepsy and as a result has three different types of seizures that happen every other day. . . .

Scott Harris said the school is aware of the issue and had promised the family that Jennifer would have a new aide with her on her trips to and from school, but he said it’s been weeks now, and that still hasn’t happened. . . .
