June 23, 2017, Franconia (PA) Reporter: Souderton Area School District hikes taxes 0.5 percent, OKs new 5-year contract Property owners in the Souderton Area School District will see their school property taxes increase by one-half percent for the 2017-2018 school budget given final approval at the Souderton Area School Board’s June 22 meeting. … The projected $124,446,080 of expenses in the 2017-2018 budget is balanced by $123,230,964 revenue and $1,215,116 from the fund balance. Expenses include $53,139,959 for regular education, $26,370,281 for special education and pupil services, $9,956,320 for curriculum and administration, $9,396,850 for debt service, $8,850,459 for operations and maintenance, and $7,431,596 for transportation. … “We’re dealing with skyrocketing special education costs, unfunded state mandates, an unfair funding formula regarding our local charter school, rising pension costs, and yet our students are excelling and Souderton is ranked as one of the best schools in the state.” Scheuren said. ….
